TDM #1

TDM #1: AUGUST
I. ARRIVAL
Upon arrival, characters awaken in one of the main plazas of the town, lying on the paving stones around a central fountain. It is a bright sunny day and very hot, so you'll quickly want to find some shade. A light breeze brings the scent of the sea, but there are no cries of sea birds to be heard.

The buildings of the plaza are all medieval stone construction, but they all have modern awnings and glass fronts. Tables out front display tourist wares: little plastic statuettes, postcards, t-shirts. Among these, it's easy to identify Greek lettering, Greek gods, photos of Athens and Crete. Predominant among the souvenirs are items marked with the name Rhodos.

But there are no vendors selling their wares. Even if characters wander into the shops, they are all empty as if their owners just stepped away for a moment. Lights are on, and some of the larger and nicer shops even have the whirr of air conditioning. Food stands waft the aroma of freshly grilled kebabs, and a gelato cart is cold to the touch and the ice cream inside is frosty and delicious.

The plaza where you arrive is set on a slope, and the direction of the sea breeze and the faint sound of waves against a shore indicates pretty strongly that down-slope is the direction of the sea. But looking down the slope from the main plaza, you can see an open archway in a tall stone wall, and beyond it is nothing but mist. Despite the clear sunny day in the plaza, the mist is a dense fog with barely three feet of visibility. If you enter it, you can see your own arms in front of you, but nothing beyond that. The breeze has gone still and the waves no longer sound so much like waves--the sound is warped through the mist so that it almost sounds like sobbing. After about five minutes of determined walking across what feels like flat ground with no other landmarks, you find yourself back at the archway.

Housing can easily be scavenged. Doors are unlocked and the interiors are clean and welcoming, beds freshly made, as if it is a hotel that's been prepared for you rather than anyone's personal residence. And yet, once you've settled upon a place to live, you start to find little signs that you have lived here all along. The photographs on the wall (which weren't there when you first arrived) depict you and your family and friends, even if you came from a world without photography. Upon arrival, you have only the clothing you are wearing, but within a day the closet begins to fill with familiar outfits from home, and within the first week you may find up to five of your own possessions around your new residence.

Note: Wardrobe is limited to what you can reasonably fit inside a non-walk-in apartment closet, what your character would reasonably wear and possess in canon, or what can be scavenged around town. There are two very small clothing boutiques where you can find most basics and a few cute outfits. For starting possessions two may be weapons or magical items, but you may have an additional three mundane items. All other personal items can only be obtained through regains or events.
II. SOUND AND LIGHT
The first few days in your new home are relatively uneventful. The days are hot and sunny and the nights are warm beneath a dazzling starry sky.

After not quite a week, the noises of a spectacle will lead characters to a small gate in one of the outer walls with steps leading down into the outer moat. The fog surrounding the city walls has drawn back for just this one little area, revealing an open air theater butting up against the castle wall. A path leads away from the theater on either side, but if you walk into the mist on either side you will promptly find yourself walking out of the mist on the opposite side, as if you'd circumnavigated the entire moat in just a few steps. Behind the theater is another high stone wall. Centuries of weathering has added rough footholds and handholds, but it would be a dangerous climb without equipment. Trees grow from the top of the wall, sticking limbs out of the wall of mist and clawing roots into the stones at the top, loosening them so that they're ready to slip at a touch.

The play that is projected onto the wall features shadow puppets, colored lights, and canned soundtrack special effects like the clop of horses hooves or the burst of trumpets. There is no dialogue or narration, so the story can only be roughly pieced together: there is a king and a queen, then a betrayal that leads to the king's murder. Later, the king and the queen appear again, participating in a ritual which seems to involve human sacrifice, a war and a triumphal procession, and then another betrayal and the king is murdered again.

The story repeats three times every night before shutting itself off. The first performance starts at twilight, and each repetition lasts about twenty minutes. Characters who watch it repeatedly will get the sense that it's slightly different each time, but the whole thing is complicated and confusing without any narration or dialogue to provide context, so characters will struggle to pin down how it's different. A slide projector is set up at the top of the amphitheater, with a pair of old speakers on either side of it. If slides are removed from the projector, they show only blank, uncolored plastic. If something is placed in front of the projector light, the scene is projected onto that object. The projector can be turned off, unplugged, or smashed. No matter what is done to it, as soon as no one is actively watching it, it is restored to an undamaged status and resumes playing.

After watching an entire repetition of the performance, some characters may be overcome by a fit of weeping. Tears roll down your cheeks and you can't seem to catch your breath. Despair clutches at your heart, colored by your own personal sorrows, and the weeping can only be stopped by receiving an embrace.

Others may find that the performance inspires them to reminisce. No matter how secretive you might normally be, you find yourself turning to whoever is sitting near you and telling them a story from your past, something that makes you nostalgic or regretful.
III. INTO THE FOG
CONTENT WARNING: Cruelty and violence against (monster) dogs

After the characters have been in Rhodos for about three weeks, a heavy fog rolls into town. Unlike the mist that surrounds the city, the fog smells of smoke. Visibility is reduced to a mere ten or fifteen feet.

The electricity goes out, and shops are no longer replenished. Food may still be scavenged, but the food in shops and restaurants will slowly rot and may run out. Battery operated items will continue to work as long as the batteries still have a charge. Running water inside the houses continues to work, but it is sluggish and smells stale, leaving an unpleasant film on the skin.

While out on the streets of the town, characters will begin to encounter the monster dogs of Rhodos. The sound of a dragging chain precedes them, and then the hazy outline of a dog comes into view. It's walking oddly, however, with a sort of staggering limp, and the sound of the chain is underlaid by a low, feral growl. Furless gray skin peels away in patches to reveal bloody muscle. The heavy iron collar around the neck is studded with long black screws, the ends of which pierce the skin of the neck. Hazy eyes are clouded with decomposition, and yet that doesn't seem to prevent the dog from making its way straight toward you.

The dogs are not very fast, nor very smart. They can be outpaced at a brisk walk, and they will lose track of any character who gets more than twenty feet away or behind a closed door. But they are vicious. If you get within a few feet, they will lunge at you and attempt to bite. If two or three of them manage to corner you in a blind alley, you could be in real trouble.

In addition to the dogs, characters will begin to catch glimpses of Manifestations, both their own or those of others. At first you might just catch a glimpse of them through a break in the fog, but after a day or two they can be spotted standing outside of apartment windows and staring in. In either case, they will not approach or attack characters unless you're foolish enough to get within six feet of them. Then, they will attack, and they will pursue at a fast walk until they lose track of you in the fog.
IV. WAKING UP TO A NIGHTMARE
CONTENT WARNING: Blood imagery

On the 28th, characters are awakened by the sound of their front doors being smashed in. It's your own smashing door that awakens you, but you can hear more distant sounds of destruction from the other apartments nearby.

As you scramble out of your bed, you find that the homey, quilted bedding has been soaked through with blood, and it's sagging in the middle with the outline of a human body. But before you have a chance to properly react to that horror, your Manifestation is coming through your bedroom door — more than one of them, if you were sharing that bed with anyone.

You will have to fight or dodge in order to get out of the room. Your Manifestation is out for your blood. You can do damage to it, creating deep wounds and heavy bruises, causing it to stagger and slow for a moment, but no matter how much damage you do it keeps coming for you. Sooner or later, you will need to run.

When you make it out into the streets, you'll find that the entire world has changed. Heavy darkness fills the city, and no stars are visible in the sky. A few lights glow despite the lack of electricity, but they only provide a sickly, red-tinted light. Streets are slick with something that looks like blood, and the stone walls in many places have been transformed into metal or grate. Through the grate, you can catch glimpses of black metal hooks and gory, dripping meat that looks human in origin.

There is no palatable food or water. Anything you have saved has rotted or changed unnaturally into what looks like rotting flesh or lumps of bile. Liquid has turned into blood or black water. The only mercy is that symptoms of hunger, thirst and fatigue stabilize after 24 hours and don't get any worse. Don't worry, it won't be the dehydration that kills you here.

Your Manifestation pursues you tirelessly, and the monster dogs are faster, smarter, and moving in packs. Your home is no longer safe, and staying on the streets is deadly.
V. THE BONFIRE
CONTENT WARNING: Body horror, immolation

Sooner or later, you find your way to the bonfire in the middle of the fountain square. There is no longer water in the fountain. Instead, the whole thing towers with flame, fueled by a viscous black substance in the basin.

A tall man stands by the fountain, gazing into the flames as if he is supervising. His suit is true black, fathomless black, while his skin is a dark red-black like the newly formed crust upon a lava flow. His eyes are black pools reflecting the flames. He takes no interest in any approaching characters, and will not respond to any questions. The only thing that will draw his attention to you is an attempted attack. If you try it, your blow lands, but he doesn't seem to take any damage. His head turns toward you and he considers you for a moment, as if he finds it intriguing that you would attempt such a thing. Then he returns his attention to the fire.

The dogs and the Manifestations will not pursue you into the circle of light cast by the bonfire. You can find a sort of respite here.

Time passes. It feels like days, though there is no way to mark the passage of time. The Dark Figure continues to supervise the bonfire.

At last, your attention is drawn to a sort of commotion approaching down one of the main streets that feeds into the plaza. You hear a rattling of metal, and a sort of gibbering moan. The bonfire illuminates first upon a pale, faceless figure which seems to writhe as it approaches, hovering above the paving stones. As it grows closer, you see that the figure is lashed to a square metal frame and bound with strips of barbed wire. Veiled figures on either side bear it forward, and the Dark Figure turns to watch it approach.

The figure upon the frame has no face and no mouth with which to make its agonized moans, but it continues nonetheless. It has limbs but no hands or feet, each limb ending in smooth stumps.

If no one interferes, the Handmaidens carry the frame forward and place it upon the fire.

The Handmaidens can be attacked, and hurt. They cry out indignantly at any attack, and recoil. They will not fight back, but they also will not be discouraged from their task by anything less than persistent violence.

If the pale figure on the frame is rescued by the player characters, it flails and gibbers helplessly, continuing to moan. If the pale figure is consigned to the flames, it begins to scream, and continues screaming for several minutes until the flame finally overcomes it.

In either situation, you begin to cough. Blood spills from your mouth, dribbling down your chin and spattering upon your clothing. But then the droplets begin to slither into letters, forming words that spell out your deepest guilt, in the words you yourself would use to describe it. No attempt to wipe the words away or cover them will prevent their legibility. The blood shines through whatever covers it, catching the firelight so that those around you can clearly read the words.

The Dark Figure and his Handmaidens made their exit while you were coughing. You are left alone with the other Tourists around you, your guilt, and whatever remains of the pale figure upon the frame.
SUMMARY
Arrival: August 1
Sound and Light: August 5-20
Into the Fog: August 21-27
Waking Up to a Nightmare: August 28-30
The Bonfire: August 31

Welcome to Rhodos! Going forward, events will take place in two parts. The Normal World part of the event posted on the 5th of each month, and it will be a lighter event both in terms of length and thematic content. TDMs will be bi-monthly and will feature an event element or elements for the Normal World which in-game characters may also play with on their own log posts. The sections on Fog and Nightmare worlds for the TDM will generally be the same every month, allowing players to test drive those elements if they'd like, but not including spoilers for the second part of that month's event. The second part of the event will be posted on the 20th of each month, covering events occurring through both the Fog and Nightmare cycles.

Test drive memes are considered game canon.

This won't always be the case, but for the nerds among you who are enjoying this sometimes-accurate tour of Rhodes, all location images in this TDM and housing are accurate to Rhodes.

Lastly, we are in need of mods! We're most in need of help for processing apps and activity. If we aren't able to get some additional mods, we will have to place a cap on applications, and we're hoping we won't have to do that. If you're interested, please send us a message over on the mod contact page. We've gotten the mod volunteers we needed so we should be all clear to proceed without an applications cap. Thank you to everyone who showed interest!

She does even look bothered that he is ready to bash her over the head with his gun. She's pleased to see that he's ready to defend himself. She'd react much the same. The last time someone tried to get the jump on Vex'ahlia, she'd damage them just enough so that they couldn't chase her as she ran to safety. Now, however, she's more likely to kill them if she can.

Even though it hasn't been that long since they've become lovers, she knows Percy well enough to notice all the strain and stress he's leashed himself in. She removes her hand from his mouth, gives him a hard kiss, and then grabs his hand to pull him along the alley to the relative safety of the doorway that leads to the windowless cellar she's been holed up in for the last two days.

When they are inside, she tries to move a large shipping box in front of the door. "Percy, can you help me with this? I don't think I can summon Trinket just yet."

Tattoos, smaller...I believe I may have actually-

[Potentially, Danny would have gladly taken such attention too.

Indeed however, this is not the time, and Jonathan is cut off sharply by that approaching buzzing sound. Glancing behind Yuki as the man looks for himself, Jonathan balks-

NOT THE BEES-

And tenses.
] Wait! We need to stay together! [He cries, and though he swings his blade with enough force that an insect or two splats against it from where they'd flown ahead of the swarm.

It is enough however, to make it clear that standing and waiting will be suicide- there will be no delaying the storm, and his face grows white with shock as he turns to run after and with Yuki.
]

I had expected grotesque beasts, but certainly not insects..! Let alone bees of all things..!

Indeed- it is certainly not a common weapon, [he chuckles, rubbing the back of his head,] But it was presented to me as a token of victory and fortune in combat. If you are perhaps familiar with the name of Bruford, but he was a knight to Mary Stuart, Queen of the Scots in the mid-1500s.

[And also the name of a drummer, but surely that's coincidence. Just wait until Speedwagon comes up.] He had been resurrected however, as a villainous zombie, devoted only to the will of the vampire who raised him! It was in our battle that he managed to regain sense, and move on- bestowing upon me his renamed blade in the process.

[Strangely, Jonathan doesn't give the impression of someone boasting as he shares the tale. It is one more close to the heart for the man, and he appears to genuinely feel more for Bruford than anything.

...It's still very odd, and perhaps it will be easier to focus on what Jonathan says next.
] I have attempted to reach for my Hamon to perhaps try at least combating the hounds, [he confesses, immediately proving any such theory of sense wrong,] But thus far have regained nothing...

I do believe you are right to say we ought stick together for that reason and many others! [He is able to finish the statement with a smile, and the optimism seems to even stick a little longer as he nods.] When it comes to combat at least, I can truthfully say that I shall defend you with my very life- and defend Danny as well! But if you yourself have fought such vile beasts, then we should see each other in good company indeed.

For that matter, you have an advantage over myself already! I fear that nursing techniques were far more my wife's area of knowledge rather than my own...

[The smile is more strained as he mentions his wife. She's not here, after all.

With any luck, he thinks, she never will be.

You underestimate how quickly I can say Vögelein. she enunciates it with an almost one hundred percent accuracy; language is one of robin's true talents. it's true however; robin could probably survive pretty well off of being an auctioneer if she could hone her gift of gab.

german is still one of the languages she isn't fluent in, though she does understand the language structure, so knowing what a Vormund is...she doesn't. thankfully the translation gives her a way to understand the true emotional impact. shit...this absolutely pales in comparison to what she herself was just blubbering about. death, a true loss. and a complicated one at that.

Shit, I'm— I'm so sorry. I've never lost someone close like that, so I can't say I know...I wish I could give you what you gave me a second ago.

it feels bad to have no word of advice or true empathy to give, but she does have all the sympathy in the world for those who lose those that were important in their life. I'm not...good? At emotional stuff, which sound super selfish — maybe it is super selfish, but I'm here for you. If you want to take your mind off stuff, or watch...maybe whatever the next puppet show is, that hopefully isn't about some kind of puppetcide. Or just to listen to stuff. I owe you that— no, I want to do that for you.

She kissed him and held his hand. The quick simple actions startled the already shaky gunslinger into complete silence as he wonders if he's dealing with another Manifestation. He doesn't have time to ruminate on that long before he's being led into a cellar and he helps to move the box because he needs something for his hands to do before he loses his mind. He'd come to this place on a razor's edge already and now it was slowly getting worse. How long before he breaks he wonders, before he lets these creatures take him to wherever they go when they aren't terrorizing the town.

Once the box is settled against the door, Percy sits on it and begins taking Pepperbox apart making an effort to calm his mind in the only way he knows how. "It's good to see a familiar face," he says quietly as he works because he knows shutting one of his friends out when they are right in front of him never ends well.

(end of multiverse of madness spoilers in prompts! )

I. ARRIVAL
(the contrast she awakes to is disorienting, near as the fact that she’s still breathing, not buried amidst the rubble of an ancient mountain.

when wanda rights herself enough to catch her breath, to find her proverbial footing, she finds the town before her to be a little too perfect around the edges. a little too quiet, a little too uncanny and for an instant, wanda worries it had been another hex, inadvertently created without her control, some remand of the darkhold rising up in revolt.

but instead, no power at all comes to her fingertips, and when she tries to reach into the minds of anyone she catches, there is nothing but her own reflected back. nothing but the sound of her own heartbeat in her ears.

idly, she’s aware that she still wears the scarlet witch’s crown. her fingers still soot-dipped from the dark magic she’d beheld.

it doesn’t take too long to find another, and she’s approaching them with little ceremony. her voice rings with a tired sort of demand, panic poorly schooled around the edges.
) Where is this place?
II. SOUND AND LIGHT
( a week in, and very little has changed and it is a near infuriating thing. her magic remains absent, gone and she wishes it wasn’t. a part of her, maybe once, would have felt more relieved and maybe it would be freeing to some, but at the end of it all, wanda maximoff is once again left with nothing, stripped away of even the one thing that had fast become her only companion. and how many times had she tried to call it up again? how many times had she tried to twist reality, change the sweltering heat, listen to the minds around her?

nothing but silence, and normalcy and its startling how ill-equipped she’d become to it.

she keeps to herself, as much as she can — torn between the exhaustion of psyche, still a record of hairline fractures and the subconscious pull of wanting, needing to figure this out. for everyone here, not just herself. she owed that much. thrice over, for the people she’s hurt.

the show starts one evening under the sky, a dazzling throw of stars.

it plays out in caricatures stretched across an ancient wall and there is no happy ending and wanda cannot seem to look away, perched on a rock.

something tightens in wanda’s throat, third repetition settling into silence. her breaths broken, heartbeat loud in her ears.

sacrifice. murder. betrayal. it’s — confusing and hopeless and it echoes too closely of the grief she’s carried for so long and it twists and pulls it forward until her breath comes in a ragged sob, face buried into her hands.
) I’m sorry, ( a whisper, and it isn’t to anyone nearby )

III. INTO THE FOG
( to say that she is relived when the fog rolls in would be an overstatement and, perhaps, an oversimplification. its almost like wanda had expected it — expected something to happen because nothing can be perfect forever. because nothing simply pulls everyone out of universes to drop them into some picture perfect seaside town, only to keep them locked here. magic taken, and anything powerful enough to do that is a concern she is ill-equipped for in her current state.

so no, nothing is ever picture perfect. she would know. she’d created that illusion once, convincing enough for reality to bend around it.

but it presents another problem, wandering through the fog-filled streets — grotesque animals, near rotting skin. it was the first mistake, to try and get a closer look, drawn forward by curiosity and unease both, like unravelling a mystery. and when the dog — in as much as that thing can be — turns its attention on her and lunges, wanda throws her arm out to cast it aside, only belatedly remembering the absence of power.

its dumb luck and just enough reflex that gets her out of the way of the first bite.

running had never been her first instinct. but without a weapon, without her magic, it is the next best thing she can do.

when she rounds a corner, pace slowed to a fast walk, it has her nearly careening into someone else. she is quick to warn:
) Be careful. There’s — a monster.

[ These bees are a strange sort — the natural enemy of Handead like him. He’s never been threatened by their kind like Gara has, but he has the distinct feeling that, here at least, they can turn him Zendead.

He lets Jonathan catch up — the sword is useful, and he wants to know what he knows about Gara. ]

They might not threaten you as bad as me, unless you’re Handead —

[ This is misery, and he’s not made for it. He wants to collapse.

But they keep running. ]

I’m sorry, I don’t have anything to fight with!

He's too quiet, too wound up. She doesn't need to look hard to see that this is not the Percy she left back on Exandria. Not exactly. The bright, sharp joy she felt when she realized it was him dies slowly in her chest and she wants to cry.

As he takes up his position on top of the box to fix his gun, she gracefully slides down a wall to rest and think of what to do next. They're the planners of the group, after all. She can't stop being Vex'ahlia of Vox Machina just because Percy isn't hers.

"Just how familiar are we, darling?"

Oh! [A watery smile. Later she'll have to ask if Robin speaks German.] That's impressive.

[Vögelein shakes her head. Having her nose plugged up by tears is so strange, and even though she's seen it plenty of times she's reluctant to sniff them out of the way, like they could clog up these unfamiliar lungs.]

Truly you're kind, Robin. I don't know if you wouldn't think me mad if I explained, but - I'm older than I look. This is not my first winter. [Definitely no one looking at her now would assume she was an automaton made in 1692. For the first time, she's at a loss about whether she should explain it.] The strange part is truly being here - being like this. Have you...?

Yeah, a win is a win. [ where does eddie find robin's brand of optimism. can he bottle that up, shoot it as a shot or take it in the form of a pill. ] Bigfoot sightings, Buckley? Really?

[ but then he taps his chin with his other hand, drawls on and there's waver in his voice but it's a bit steadier than before. maybe. he hopes it is because, jesus christ, can't they just catch a break. ] UFOs might have explained the whole floating up in the air thing, actually, so it's a good thing I didn't think about that or I would have tucked tail and left you guys one man down.

[ he looks up at the sky above them, brows knit, and decides to say 'fuck it' to this shitty situation and weirdness around them. he slings an arm around buckley's shoulders. they're not friends but they've fought monsters together, are going through some goddamn horrifying stuff still. what's a little bit of an awkward hug between them? ] Wouldn't that be great? Honestly, I'd like to speak to whatever goddamn supernatural travel agent booked this excursion to complain about the weather and the fact no restaurant will accommodate my fucking dinner party of twenty-five.

[ what to people that can afford actual vacations like this complain about? who knows. ]

robin's eyes narrow, narrow, narrow, and her eyebrows raise in surprise and confusion. mary, queen of scots? zombie? what the hell is a hamon? this sounds...crazy. straight up insane.

— but, you know what? she's been in a russian lab. she's seen a fucked up creature from another dimension kill a guy in the middle of a mall. she's been inside another dimension...maybe two now, if that's what this whole not!italy setup is!

Just to say this, for the record...that all sounds super intense and absolutely bonkers. But fake-Italy-Robin — oh, I'm Robin by the way — anyway, fake-Italy-Robin is just going to give everything a 'yes, and' approach, and roll with a zombie vampire queen battle scenario. So I'm on board, completely.

robin gives him an enthusiastic double thumbs up, smile wide and crazed. might as fucking well. she's also pleasantly surprised that he's walked back what she feels like is making her out to be a damsel in distress — sure, if he's dealt with...zombie queens? vampire swords? all that whatever, he's very likely more apt in battle than she is, mostly experienced with whacking and bonking. but she's acknowledged as an equal! good company! feels nice.

I've totally got faith in us — you too Danny, especially if whatever pops up here stays at that 'just rolled out of bed' pace. I just need...a weapon. Because I am super short-handed here, and I do not have any sort of close combat skills to speak of.

I don't believe it wise that I test that theory, [Jonathan admits- though he does notably appear to keep behind Yuki rather than beside. If he can lessen the risk that the other fall to the insects, he'll do it, damn the consequences.] There must surely be somewhere we can escape these things though!

[And-

Hold on, perhaps this isn't the time, but-
] Just what do you mean by 'Handead'?

[There's a lot to unpack here, and Robin is perhaps wise to simply set that suitcase aside to be forgotten in a closet or something. There's no time or need for details! The important part is-]

Oh- Jonathan Joestar, it's a pleasure to meet you Miss Robin! ...Though if I might say something, I do believe this is meant to resemble Greece rather than Italy. The architecture has brought an incredibly Grecian feeling to it, and I believe I have seen some drawings akin to the structures here in my texts!

[Something just occurred to him, and he manages to avoid going down the tangent of Greek History long enough to pause.] ...'Fake'?

[...Probably not important!] Of course! If close combat is something you consider a weakness, perhaps we could find some sort of projectile launcher? A firearm could certainly be effective, though I know not where we would locate such a thing here... [the man mutters, furrowing his brows.]

[ It's almost hypnotic. The longer she goes on, the more convinced Raylan is that he's just at a really weird Greek-themed outdoor 31 Flavors, and he simply forgot how he got here. Stranger things have happened, but not many.

He props a hand on his hip, tipping his head a little to one side to consider it on face value. Banana pistachio. Honestly, his initial problem with the combination isn't that it sounds gross, just that it sounds like it'd taste of almost nothing, but he's no connoisseur of weird flavors. He is, however, a connoisseur of ice cream. ]

Now, see, I can't tell if you're tellin' me the truth or if you're bullshittin' me so I don't feel like an outsider to this banastachio sensation that's sweepin' the nation.

If demogorgons are real, why not bigfoot? the tone in her voice is serious, but in a mocking way. she knows it's ridiculous, okay? but it's her thing. let her have her campy paranormal newsletters.

robin tilts her head back, squinting her eyes closed as tight as possible and blinking them open again. fuck, they're starting to burn.
I don't know if you actually want to get me started on UFOs. Because, I mean, I will absolutely oblige you, but if you thought I couldn't shut up before...well, you've seen nothing yet. the skinship means nothing to her — well, it means something. it's nice having tactile relationships after having basically none for so long. but eddie doesn't give her the vibe that most guys do that would turn arms around your back into arms moving in other places, so it's fine. he has this oddly comfortable presence when she's not anxious about his demise.

and it's really, really important that she doesn't think about that right now.

so she leans into it, the curve of her skull resting against the back of his arm now. her arm that's free lifts her hand into a telephone shape, placed next to her head. robin puts on an awful midwestern accent, attempting to stifle as many tears as she can for her bit,
Yes, hello? Have I reached Alternate Dimensional Escape Tours? Yes, I arrived and you've lost my luggage in some kind of time rift, and there wasn't a bellboy waiting to bring it up for me anyway. I'll be writing a strongly worded letter to my congressman, the Better Business Bureau and the Interdimensional Travel Board.

her face contorts, feigning offense. why she's so engrossed in this bit...maybe the earnest nature of how he's going along with it?

Sono io? I am but a simple gelati, looping you in on the the latest craze in the frozen treat world. I've got the regular crowd in here, of course— robin leans forward slightly, staring down at her (??) inventory. Chocolate, can't go wrong...running a little low on mango, that's a big one that goes fast. Coconut's in here, lemon, espresso...but that banastachio, you really just. robin sucks her teeth, shaking her head. You can't go wrong with it.

[ They both look a little out of place, Raylan with his hat and Dani with... all of that going on. Raylan purses his lips for a moment in thought. ]

That's that German thing, right? With the maypole?

[ that's a really good point, actually. eddie opens his mouth and closes it, can't really find a rebuttal for that. ] Honestly, I'd rather see Bigfoot than another Demo-bat.

[ which is shitty because he knows that back home, he's about to play an epic guitar solo for a hoard of them before he gets the fuck out of there. at least there's that; an end in sight. ] You could definitely tell me about the UFOs. It's better than me talking about my shit.

Speaking of which. I do feel a bit better now that it's out there, so you could also tell me your shit. If it helps. It will with the crying at least. Or tell me about the craziest UFO thing you've heard about. [ eddie is still tearing up, yeah, but having an arm around robin helps and so does having some of it out there. he doesn't actually feel better at the core of it, honestly, but he's not about to start sobbing into robin's shoulder.

instead he snorts a little, shakes his head. ]
Think we can manage a refund if we complain enough? Ask for a manager? Maybe throw a fit that our pet Pomeranians weren't allowed in the fountain? Harrington might know what to complain about to get some money back on this bullshit.

[ The fact of the matter is that ice cream simply is not a joke to Raylan Givens, and in all honesty he's never actually heard anyone else talk about it with this much passion before, even if it actually is bullshit. ]

You gonna refuse to serve me if I ask for vanilla, o simple gelati?

[ Raylan landed right on his ass – cowboy boots are not, in point of fact, particularly good for running in – but the latent embarrassment of doing so is barely registering with him as he takes in the sight of this guy and his giant dog sprawled out on the ground. This place just keeps throwing surprises at him.

His heart is pounding in his ears, and every cell in his body is screaming at him to look behind him to see if the thing that's been chasing him is gaining on him. Its snarl had almost, for a moment, sounded familiar. Something jolts sharply through him, the long-buried feeling of wanting his Aunt Helen, and then an utterly hopeless pang following shortly thereafter. He grits his teeth and ignores it. Tries to.

Combined, it's all enough of a distraction that he really does just stand there for a moment and stare, and then visibly collects himself, attempting a hard yank to pull the guy to his feet. ]

Jesus Christ, I'm tellin' you we gotta go right this second and you're worried about a damn sword?

[ Yes, it's a weapon. But Raylan would prefer ranged attacks to melee ones, so to speak. ]

[ Raylan nods, his boots scuffing a little on the floor as he strolls further inside, one hand coming to rest on his hip. He's noticed it too, the eerie just-left-ness of the place, demonstrable through the practicalities. Food, power, the sense that everything's just running itself. ]

'S like everyone just disappeared. [ It's a light, curious remark, like they're just sussing out a hypothetical situation together. ] Or like they're all just... hidin'. Poppin' up to flip a kebab on the grill when I turn my back. Is that your radio, or just one you found?

[ they're no easy words to digest in a situation such as this. he swallows and feels lead slide in the hollow of his throat, the familiar weight of good intentions coalescing there. ]

An idealist's want. [ there is no insult in the observation. ] What betrayed your intentions?

[ he thinks for a moment it may be cruel of him to keep asking questions of a tired woman forced to choke up whatever ugliness this place seeks from them. but there is little left to look for in the dome of this eternal night, the slow seeping maw of it descending from above. the fire burns, but he shivers. ]

[It's like a pair of colliding clacky balls on a desk. Oops! No one wins.

Still- panicked as he is- as they both are, really- Jonathan manages to not seem too frustrated about Raylan's incredulity.
] Between one's fists and otherwise sir, it is better than the former! There- [he adds once on his feet- and kudos to Raylan if he successfully forced the man up, as Jonathan is about 230 pounds of muscle- before stooping to try and grab for the fallen blade's handle.]

A gun relies upon its limited ammo, but a blade has naught but itself- it is better to take what we can!

['You have it until it breaks at least,' he finds himself thinking, but he pushes the thought aside. He would have hardly brought it along for his final encounter on the ship after all, so thinking of if he'd had it then is most certainly useless.

(The thought is there all the same, lingering regardless.)

(it is kou! lily and i were talking about your threads irl and it was cute so i wanted to say hi to you i hope you've been well!)

[ a brow quirks at the insistence of dry bread, but when in rome... or in rhodos... ]

I had the same thought. [ a small sip of coffee. ] Monsters are new territory for me, so if I want to investigate, I thought I should at least have the energy to do so if something were to happen. Though I suppose it's the same if someone is in need of help.

[ "something"

hence this nice luncheon. for monster-stalking energy.

I wasn’t talking to you.

{ It’s more of a mumble and there’s an honesty that burns at the tip of his tongue as he speaks. The instilled jarring state he’s found is more prevalent than the smell of smoke from the bonfire or the appearances of creatures around them.

He doesn’t look at Hannibal at first, not while the words sweep at his feet. He stares quietly at the offered handkerchief. How long as it been? Jack’s request is fresh, of which he attempted to settle his faded obsessions, to find a sense of peace that will never be meant for him. His brief travels took him to places he didn’t intend, and somewhere along those travels (his imminent search), he ended up here.

Will has been caught off guard before, but not like this. It’s premature something in him whispers. His fingers curl into the seam of his pants, scratching along the fabric, needing something to lure him back. }

They’re alive. { Jack and Alana, but not Abigail; truths that need to be said to get out of the way. Cold facts. He is compelled to take the handkerchief and with it he wipes the blood he can smell on the corner of his mouth. The copper taste is mocking. He wonders if he should take his chances out there, to run from the conversation. Parts of Will are split. Upon finally meeting Hannibal’s gaze, Will decides to remain for now. His voice is intentionally neutral as he subtlety clutches the handkerchief at the ends of it. }

You should have killed me. It’s your sloppiest work.
